How to Download a YouTube Video

This guide walks you through downloading a YouTube video as an MP3 audio file or MP4 video file using Ywdown. The whole process takes less than a minute.

Step 1 — Copy the YouTube URL

Open YouTube in your browser (or the YouTube app on your phone) and find the video you want to download. Copy the URL from the browser's address bar. On the YouTube mobile app, tap Share → Copy link.

A typical YouTube URL looks like this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=abcDEF12345

Short links like https://youtu.be/abcDEF12345 also work. So do YouTube Shorts and YouTube Music URLs.

Step 2 — Paste the URL into Ywdown

Open Ywdown's homepage in a new tab. Paste the URL you copied into the search box at the top of the page. You can also type a song title or artist name — Ywdown will search YouTube for matching videos.

Step 3 — Click Convert

Click the red Convert button. Ywdown will fetch the video's title, thumbnail, author, and available formats. This usually takes 1–3 seconds.

Step 4 — Pick a Format

After the video card appears, you'll see a format picker embedded below. You'll see two tabs:

• Audio (MP3) — choose this if you only want the sound. Options range from 64 kbps (smallest file) to 320 kbps (best quality). M4A and WAV are also available.
• Video (MP4) — choose this if you want the full video. Resolutions range from 360p (smallest) to 4K WEBM (largest, when available).

Pick the format and quality that fits your needs. Smaller files download faster and take up less storage. Higher quality gives better sound and picture.

Step 5 — Click Download

Click the Download button next to the format you chose. The file will be saved to your browser's default download folder.

On desktop, the file appears in your Downloads folder. On Android, check the Downloads app. On iOS, the file appears in the Files app under Downloads.

Tips for Best Results

• For music, 192 kbps MP3 is the sweet spot — good quality, small file.
• For podcasts and speech, 128 kbps MP3 is plenty.
• For videos you'll watch on a phone, 720p MP4 looks great and downloads fast.
• For editing or large screens, go for 1080p or higher if available.
• Always check the file name and extension after download — it should end in .mp3, .mp4, .webm, .m4a, or .wav. Don't open files ending in .exe or .msi.

Troubleshooting

The video won't load

Make sure the URL is correct and complete. The video may be private, age-restricted, or removed. Try a different video to confirm the tool works.

The download is slow

Download speed depends on the file size, your internet connection, and how busy the server is. Try a lower quality or wait a few minutes and try again.

The file won't open

Check the file extension. MP3, M4A, WAV (audio), and MP4, WEBM (video) should open with any default media player. If the file ends in .exe or .msi, delete it — it's not from Ywdown.

Only download content that you own, that you have permission to download, or that is licensed for reuse (such as Creative Commons). Downloading does not transfer copyright to you. Always respect the creator's terms and your local copyright laws. Don't redistribute downloaded files publicly without permission.
